So much of the first half of the season was filler - we're over halfway through and it feels like the season is just beginning.
May I Trim Your Hedges?
This is exactly how I feel about it, this episode really showcased the importance of good pacing and editing. I still found every single storyline outside of Ian and Mickey's to be really boring, but the episode balanced the different storylines well enough that I didn't feel bogged down by any single one of them. I'm still frustrated that they're continuing down the white saviour trope with Carl's storyline, this time killing off a black woman for the growth of his character, and Kev and V continue to have morally bankrupt storylines that are more depressing than shockingly entertaining like they're going for. It was such a breath of fresh air to see a happy and free Mickey this episode, which we haven't had in so long. I'm so thankful that he seems beyond the terrible writing and characterisation that's touched the rest of this show - every Mickey scene was a delight to watch. Also, I can't believe after how much time the tamales storyline took up, and the fact that they ended the previous episode with Anne and Carl's kiss, that they just wrote her off with a throwaway line.
