The last movie we watch in the Psychology of Film course I teach every spring is "class choice, " where the students to pick a movie that has been important to them. There is always a lot of variety, but we are always able to find a movie that has been meaningful to at least several of the students. Recent past choices include Forrest Gump (1994), Hoosiers (1986), and Shawshank Redemption (1994). This year's choice was a relatively recent film, The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012), and I have the sense that it is one that is going to be popular among (some) college students for a while. (The same is true of the book; in a rare situation, the book's author, Stephen Chbosky, was able to not only write the screenplay but actually direct the film version. ) When watching Wallflower, I couldn't help but compare it to The Breakfast Club (1985), a teen movie from my generation (I graduated high school the year the film was released). Most obviously, both films feature teenagers struggling with their individuality in the context of cliques and other social pressures that can be stifling.
TINU ANAND WANTED THIS FILM TO JUST RELEASE IN ONE CINEMA IN HE KNEW THIS FILM WILL PICK ON WORD OF MOUTH. IS FOR SELECTED WAS BE HIT IF RELEASED IN ONE CINEMA THE PRODUCER WANTED TO BANK ON BIG B;S RELEASED ALL VIDEO.. FILM BOMBED... Satyam was the origional tittle of this film and there is similarity between Main Azaad Hoon and the Rekha starer Bharstachar both film relesed in same year. This movie is remake of classic film Meet John Doe directed by great Frank Capra starring Gary Cooper n Barbara Stanwyk. Vijay Anand (Goldie) in 1980s had wanted to make a film based on Meet John Doe and Goldie himself wanted to play the lead. Goldie tried very hard to make the film but dint work out. There was a talk that Mushir and Riaz were to produce the film after Rajput but it dint happen. The film was titled "Mera Insaaf " in 1987. In 1988, Tinnu Anand decided to title the film "Sach". But the rights to the title were with Vinod Pande. Vinod refused to sell the title to Tinnu. This went on back and forth for a few months.

Reviewed in the United States on November 17, 2020 Verified Purchase Saw this for the first time last night. My wife and I both were pleased by the excellent acting and direction, and thoroughly enjoyed this easy-to-watch film. The story and relationships are completely believable and naturalistically portrayed, although I do not need plot to be realistic or logic to be sound in films. "Girlfriends" treats us to an authentic portrayal of New York largely through generous documentation of SoHo in the 70s instead of the usual devotion to Times Square and the area around Central Park. The included short film "Commuters" also was very good and we enjoyed the smart cast&crew interview with Melanie Mayron, Christopher Guest, Bob Balaban, and the Director. Young Christopher Guest is fun to watch in the film. Reviewed in the United States on April 30, 2020 I saw this as a kid and never forgot it.
A24 is an independent film distributor that has made its name betting on the kind of quirky, artisanal movies that Hollywood generally ignores, and marketing them through unconventional means. In 2018, it built audiences and fanbases for projects as varied as Bo Burnham's Eighth Grade, the horror film Hereditary, and Jonah Hill's Mid90s, with a blend of zines, podcasts, film-related merchandise, and stunts designed to go viral. A24 forged a distribution deal with Apple to produce films for it. At the 2019 Sundance Film Festival, A24 was behind some of the most buzzed-about films, from its reinterpretation of Native Son to its acquisition of Awkwafina's The Farewell. The company first garnered attention for the James Franco film Spring Breakers, whose promotion included an image of Franco in a Last Supper scene that went viral. With a Best Picture Oscar win under its belt for 2016's Moonlight, A24 is now an established indie player and in 2017 the company drummed up more Oscar buzz for Greta Gerwig's Lady Bird.
